Ethan and Alex have been one of many this week tackling our new puzzles.

Ava is especially proud of her Project. We have displayed this in the school office as she has shown detail, quality and sequence. Our 3 special words in Patiki.

Elise has also worked incredibly hard creating her Project this week.

Children working hard at our creative table.

Tikva and Sally creating a block construction together. We love your teamwork girls!

Alex and Kaden also creating with the blocks.

Wow Lizzie, look at your Animal Project. We love the glitter in the background.

Leo and Thomas have used our shapes to create the most amazing pattern. They have also included Symmetry.

Busy at work making and creating.

Our Project area has been flat out all week with children creating their masterpieces.

Lachlan, Joseph, Kyron and others took on the Lego Challenge of creating a Space Scene, this is the initial stages. The final product was amazing.

Busy making their own books with pictures and stories.

This week we have welcomed Sophie to Patiki. This is Sophie's farm Project which she created and worked on throughout the week. She is already a fully-fledged member of Patiki. Well done Sophie!

END OF THE FIRST WEEK BACK!

Hi All

We've had a great week back. We have been so impressed with the children's independence in the morning and getting themselves organised for the day and they are particularly proud of themselves.
Let's keep it going next week!

Just some reminders:

Please return poetry books that are still in lockdown. Lots of children didn't have their books today.

Reading books are coming home next week as per usual. So if reading folders are still in lockdown can you please send them back to school.

As you will be aware from Mike Andersons email you are able to come onto the school grounds after 8.30am on Monday. One person per family please. You must sign in and you are unable to enter any buildings. However, you can purchase a coffee to support our PTA. Please don't mingle in groups. In the afternoon you can enter the school at 2.55pm and sign in but you must be off the school grounds by 3.10pm.

The new 'normal' of arriving and departing school has been a really positive experience for the children because they have the security of you dropping them off and being where you say you are going to be at the end of the day. They have unpacked their bags and put their own belongings in the correct places in the room and what it has meant is that the children then know where their things are. e.g. reading folders, fruit break. We would like to see this momentum continue.

Enjoy your weekend.

Reports and Interviews

Written Reports Terms 1 & 2
Due to the Covid 19 Lockdown the usual parent teacher reporting interviews from Term 1 for Years 1, 3, 5 will be a written report only. They will be sent home before 5 June.

This year, reporting in Term 2 for Years 2, 4 & 6 will also be a written report. They will be sent home before the end of Term 2.

We value having the opportunity to share your child' s progress but with recent events we are not able to offer that.

Our intention is that in Terms 3 and 4 we will resume our normal parent/teacher interview schedule.

Thanks for your understanding.

We know that force is a push or a pull. You have explored how force made objects move. Today we are going to look at Friction and what effect that has on movement.

Watch: Friction is a Force.

Now explore on your own. You will need:

Toy cars or Duplo cars or Lego cars

3 ramps the same length.

Variety of textured materials to create friction- For example: handtowel, sandpaper, rubber grippy mats.

Tape measure.(Optional)

To Start:

One ramp is free of material. Cover the other two in a different material.

Line up your ramps side by side.

Make sure your ramps are the same height. If they are the same height they should be on the same incline (angle).

Now using your cars let them go down each ramp one at a time.

What happens?

You might like to measure from the end of the ramp to where the car stops.

Which goes the furthest?

Can you change the angle of the ramps. What difference does this make?

Have fun!

Arty Shapes

Today we are going to make pictures using shapes.

We know that you have probably done this before but if not you can give it a try now.

Famous artists use shapes in their art work and create amazing and unusual pieces of art.

This painting was by Pablo Picasso. How many shapes can you see?

Go to Seesaw for the instructions for you to create your own Shape Art.

Information regarding Level 2 in Patiki

Hello All,

Tracy and myself are back in today getting things up and running for Monday. We are very excited to catch up with all our wee people!

Below are some bits and pieces to help make our arrival back at school a little easier:

-Please could you arrange for your child to bring a named pencil case, this will be kept at school in their tote tray, we will give out stationery to the children on Monday.

-All children need their own drink bottle every day. The school drinking fountains will be closed.

-Please remind your child to leave their fruit break in their bag.

-Children are more than welcome to bring their scooters and ripsticks to ride on during break times.

-Please remind your child we can not give hugs, high fives or hold hands. However we can give big happy waves and hellos to each other.

-Each morning one of us will meet children at the Tillman Ave gate from 8.30am onwards. At the end of the day we will walk all children back to the front gate with their bags, lunch boxes, jackets etc...

-Next week is going to be called Week 4 and moving forward we will finish in Week 10, Friday 3rd July. (Just in case you wanted to make any holiday plans)

-Reading books will not come home in the first week back. All books need to be wiped clean after being used. Children will read each day with the teacher and then the books will be handed back in. This will be re-looked at for the following week.

Notice for Music lessons:
Music lessons are able to start up again next week. The violin, ukulele, piano, cello, guitar, keyboard, and drum teachers are all good to go. Lesson days and times are the same as last term so please remember to bring your instruments to school.  Singing and Brass lessons will be recommencing in Week 5.

I think that is all for now. I know this is a lot to process and get your heads around. The most important thing is that we will be ready to meet your wee person on Monday morning from 8.30am onwards and we have a very settled and routined day planned in Patiki. I think there will be a lot of excitement catching up with friends as well.

Enjoy being in Level 2, see you all on Monday morning.

For a demonstration and an explanation.

This experiment shows how air can create a force.
You will need:
Balloons
A straw
Thin wire-Fishing line is perfect.
Tape
Thread the straw onto the wire.
Attach the wire between two stationary objects-chair legs work well and pull the wire until it’s straight.
Blow the balloon up and attach it to the straw with tape.
Don’t tie the balloon just hold it so the air is trapped inside the balloon.
LET THE BALLOON GO! What happened?

Problem-solving Activity.

You can choose one or both problems to do.

Stick Shapes-Think about the features of a 2D shape.

You can use two short sticks and two long sticks to build a rectangle.

What other shapes can we make from these four sticks? Give each of your shapes a name.

Note: This activity requires materials for manipulation. The sticks could be actual sticks or just strips of paper.

Here’s another challenge: You need to think about

Odd one out
Eva, Tamati, Noah and Jo are looking at the objects. Eva says, ‘Hey, the square is the odd one out.’ Tamati says, ‘No, Eva, the circle is the odd one out!’ Noah says, ‘No, it is the box!’
Jo says, ‘Well you are ALL wrong! The pentagon is clearly the odd one out.’
Who is right and why?
This problem explores some basic properties of shapes. It is important to get a good 'feel for' shapes, to name common shapes correctly and to begin to identify their properties.
There is no correct answer to this problem. It is likely that they will come up with several answers. Accept correct answers and ask for them to explain their thinking.

Geometry

Today we are going to be looking at the features of 2D and 3D shapes.

Some of the words you may not have heard before. We wil be looking at sides, corners, straight lines, faces (flat surface),
edges (where the surfaces meet), vertices (corners).

(Parents: With the activities for the next three days some children are familiar with 2D shapes and will be ready to explore 3D shapes and some will be happy to explore 2D shapes. That is O.K.)

Please see Seesaw for the activity.
